Data Gravity and IBM Z: Bringing Processing to the Data

(6G)

Stream: Virtual Room 6
Time: 10:00 - 10:45

Presentation

As data volumes grow, they naturally attract applications, services, and processing toward them, a principle known as data gravity. In hybrid cloud environments, this effect becomes a strategic factor in architecture decisions. Enterprises running mission-critical workloads on IBM Z must decide whether to move data to where processing happens or bring processing closer to where data already resides. These choices directly affect performance, cost, security, and operational complexity. In this session, we will explore the concept of data gravity and its relevance to modern IBM Z environments. Attendees will learn how data mass, application coupling, latency requirements, and access patterns influence where workloads should run. We will discuss architectural approaches that respect data gravity by enabling analytics, APIs, and AI closer to core transactional systems, reducing unnecessary data movement while supporting hybrid cloud innovation.
